海绵宝宝第九季于 2011 年 1 月 3 日星期一宣布。本季共制作 26 集，于 2012 年 7 月 21 日开始播出。它将使剧集数达到 204 集，并将超过 200 集的里程碑。[1]本季于2012年7月21日以“Extreme Spots”一集首播。这也将是第一季以高清制作。
